When deciding what to do for the project my group decided to  write a paper. I did not like the idea of writing a paper so I decided to take it upon myself to learn how to use a Prezi. I have made a Prezi before but in a group was someone else knew Prezi. I went to my friend who knows prezi very well and he taught me how to do a few things. We all sat down and wrote an outline of what we want in the prezi and started playing and moving stuff around. Thru trial and error and playing with buttons I figured it out. I created a prezi with the help of my group member and I am so proud of myself for learning a new technology on my own.

I was unable to make it to the interview because I had class but they sent me the interview to listen to it after. And it was very interesting to hear how he answered some of the questions I had created. I wish I could have been there but other than that I really liked how it went and how he answered everything. He gave us great detail about food and budgets. He also told us that a local farmers market is organic but cannot afford to be certified organic. It is very expensive to be certified organic which to me seams crazy for it to be that much.

I struggled to put the link in the oral history section. But with a little hint from my group member that it is easier to do it threw sound cloud. I had to sign up and upload the interview which was easy once I figured out were to do it at.

All together I think the project is going great. We all know what we have to do and when it has to be done. We have finally agreed on a topic and were we want it to go. So everything is moving along perfectly in my opinion.

Our group has had a dialogic approach to collaboration for the interview and the project. Each class, we discussed possible questions, topics, and research approaches. In regards to the interview itself, we all came up with ten questions on our own via blogging, and compiled the questions together for the interview. We discussed which order to put the questions, which ones we wanted to keep, the ones that we didn’t feel we needed, and chose how to combine several questions into one.
We conducted our interview with the general manager of Sodexo, Scott Smith. Sodexo is a worldwide food servicing company that works with thousands of hospitals, schools, nursing homes, military bases, etc. Mr. Smith has worked with this company for three years and is currently in charge of the servicing at Manor Care in Washington Township, which is a rehabilitation center. Sodexo is also contracted with Rowan University to provide food for everyone on campus.
Our research question asks, “Is it possible for Rowan University residents to eat organically?” We considered interviewing someone in charge of Sodexo here at Rowan, but we didn’t want them to be biased or sugarcoat any truths. Kelly’s sister and mom work at ManorCare, and her sister is employed by Sodexo there, so we thought it would be useful to interview her boss. Since Rowan and ManorCare are only a few miles from each other, we knew that there would be tons of similarities without the biased attitude of a Sodexo representative from Rowan.
The interview with Scott Smith went even better than we expected. He answered our questions fully and provided a lot of useful insight that will help us with our research project. We were surprised to find that he goes out of his way when possible to find and purchase organic products. Unfortunately, Rowan has thousands of people to feed which makes buying organic much more difficult. Furthermore, Mr. Smith explained how he was frustrated with the rising food prices, but stagnant and tight budget. Money prominently controls food choices with Sodexo, which makes it unrealistic to purchase organically. After the interview we feel mroe prepared to continue conductign for the research.

It was very hard to settle in on a topic for my group we were all kind of on the same page but the subject itself was so broad. I started doing a little research about rowan itself and the cafeteria and found out it was run by a company named sudexo. After finding that I talked with my group mates and little did I know that Kelly’s sister works for sudexo how perfect were going to interview a cook she knows. This little fact and how it was related to what we all wanted to talk about made our question that much easier to decide after finding who we were going to interview.

Interview questions
How long have you worked for sodexu?
What do you so at sodexo?
Would you eat any sodexo products?
Are all products delivered by sodexo?
Are any products organic that you are aware of?
Are any of the products fresh?
How many products are delivered frozen?
Would you consider the food you sodexo produces healthy?
Dose sodexo by products from other companies?
What brand meat products do they use?

Research question
Is it possible for a rowan student to eat organic and stay on budget?
Can rowan students get organic foods at rowan?
Dose rowan offer any organic chooses?
Is rowan providing a healthy organic like style for students?
Do any collage cafeterias offer organic meals?

All of these questions relate. It relates to weather it
is possible for a college student to eat organically. Sodexu is a big company
that provides food for many campuses and if they do not provide organic how is
it possible for a student to be organic. If there are no organic options in
school the school is making it impossible for a student to decide to be organic.
Unless that student decides not to have a meal plan with the school.

Listening to others and being influenced by what you hear, making choices when you enter into a conversation, and group work. I have personally done all of these. For this class so far I have done the second one by going over our twitterives we had to listen  to others and choice the proper response
whether it is answering the question asked or asking why they suggested to do that or how to even do stuff, or explain why you did certain things. We just started working in group we did not go over the uncomfortable moment but we did pick positions exchange emails and good times to meat. I never really thought about the first way of collaboration as collaboration but I do it. Most fo my classes have group projects so i have worked in groups alot adn sometimes it is uncomfortable at first. I use to ease drop as a kid I use to listen to my mom and grandmother talk I hated surprises so I always listened to everything. It is often hard when you only here a few words then you try to put it all together and you often create this crazy story that is not true.

Reflexive research is the act of turning back to discover, examine and critique ones assumptions. I was unsure what this was but after reading it I believe I not only know what it is I do it. Much like everyone else I assume things before I know things. This is due to our old schema. This schema shapes and molds the way we look at things. In order to stop this we must unlearn the things we have been taught. From the simplest thing of the color of a tomato, a tomato is red if it is green it means it is not ripe well the other day I was eating a salad and there was a orange grape tomato and I was not going to eat it because I thought it was not going to be good or sweet but something in my mind decided to do some reflexive research so I ate it it was so sweet and good I went to the grocery store to find them. It is hard to unlearn everything we have learned but it does take a second thought to trying something new or
experience something differently.

Qualitative research is the attempt to increase out understanding at why things are the way they are in our social world and why people act the way they do. This is based on their opinions, experiences and feelings. This is what the interview part of the collaborative project is to get the opinions, experiences, and feelings of these more experienced people. I will make sure the person I interview know I want their opinion and the personal experience and feeling that way I can get the most out of the information they have.  The narrative inquiry through a series of narrative turns, there are key moved toward narrative inquiry by the change of relationships in 4 ways. Changing of researcher and researched, more from the
use of number toward the use of word as data, change from a focus on the general and universal toward the local and specific, and widening in acceptance of alternative epistemologies or ways of knowing. I will make sure I look at all the research and data and add it into my research. I would also like to change positions and see what really happens by going through what the   researched product goes threw I believe that would put a different twist on my
  project.

They really made me think about what I eat and were it comes from I know there are many different kinds of farms but I never really thought about where my food is grown at the grocery store. At in Pollan’s article the one farmer 129 eaters that is crazy to think about one farmer feeds that many   people and in that section it says no eater really knows were there steak or soda comes from which is so true. Soda comes from a factory and steak comes from a farm but what kind of farm most likely a farm much like the farm on food inc which makes me not want to buy or eat steak anymore. My mom gets all of our meet from a butcher and she was actually allowed to go to the farm were they raised the animals we will be eating I could not bring myself to go if I did I would probably not eat meat. I really like Berry’s 7 steps of informing yourself; grow your own food if possible, prepare your own food, learn origins of the food you buy, deal directly with local farmers, learn what is involved with best farming and gardening, and learn history of food species.  Whenever I have a chance I go to our local farmers market not only is it cheaper it
tastes so much better the only problem if you do not go first thing in the
morning they may not have what you want they only have so much. They really made
me think about my food before I eat I am going to try to go over were the
products I am about to eat came from. It made you relive how little we are
informed and educated about the products we eat. This is scary.

 6) I believe everyone who came in contact with the meat at the plant and the plant itself should be responsible. For the simple fact that this Kevin died 17 days before the meat was ever recalled which means someone in the factor was not properly doing their job. If they are responsible for a young boy  death I would hope they have the some morality in them to feel badly and start cleaning up their act and there meat plant. I believe the problem is these companies feel they have power over us because they are so big. If we sued them and or stopped buying their products we would then be in charge of them. They would lose money or even better go out of business. I felt much effected by the death of this young boy. There is no way that meat like this should be able to process into our super markets and restaurants, the thing that is even worse is that it took them 17 days to recall the meat. That is over 2 weeks I myself know I eat meat at least 6 days a week so this allowed everyone who purchased  there meat to get e coli for at least 15 days. There is no excuse for that they deserve to be shut down.

7) I myself am not a complete health food eater I like my candy and chips but the health food I do eat seems to be way more expensive than just grabbing a bag of chips which I think is crazy. Vegetables which are grown should not be more than a bag of chips which need to be fried and bagged it seems completely crazy to be that I can pick up a potato and it is more expensive then a bag of potato chips. I think that organic vegetables should be cheaper than regular vegetables grown with assistance. The things they use to assist the growing process are expensive which should mean the organic vegetables would be cheaper. I would like to eat healthier but it is very expensive.

9) I believe healthy eating is your right it is your right to take care of your body. You are making the choice weather to buy or not to buy the healthy food or the bag of chips. You make the decision to wake up in the morning or not to you make the decision whether to take care of your body and live a long healthy life or not to. I’m sure Kevin’s mom will never eat at that restaurant or eat the brand meat ever again, that is her right and her choice which I completely understand. Everyone has control over their eating habits no one is shoving the food into your mouth you are the one putting it there. Some may complain that they don’t know what’s in their food but if they are that worried they can grow their own and not have to worry about it and it is much less expensive.
